Pear cut

The pear cut, sometimes called a teardrop, is a hybrid shape with one rounded end and one point. It combines the brilliance of a round cut with the elongation of a marquise, and worn with the point towards the fingertip it lengthens the hand more than any other shape.This collection includes Alexandia and Carson.Pear cuts reward careful selection. Symmetry is everything, because any deviation is immediately obvious in an asymmetric shape. The point should line up exactly with the centre of the rounded end, and the two shoulders should mirror each other. A pear that is slightly off will look wrong on the hand even if the certificate reads well.Like all elongated brilliants, pears show a bow tie across the centre. In a good stone it is faint, in a poor one it is a dark band that no setting will disguise. It is not recorded on any certificate.The point needs protection.
